Research interests

  • Aggregation of diatoms and interactions between aggregates and bacteria
  • Mesocosm experiments for research on the impact of temperature on aggregation of diatoms

(Thalassiosira rotula, Skeletonema costatum (S. marinoi) & Chaetoceros decipiens)

  • Investigation on exudates of diatoms (especially TEP, amino acids and DOC)

 

  • Zooplankton: species-specific carbon content and vertical migration behaviour in the Baltic Sea

 

Projects

  • Algal-bacterial interactions and aggregation: Implications for the plankton succession in neritic seas of the temperate zone in the course of climate change (DFG: 2007-2010, associated to the Special Priority Program AQUASHIFT)
  • Revision of the HELCOM – Guidelines in respect to biomass determination of mesozooplankton of the Baltic proper (2004-2007, BMLP QA North Sea, Baltic Sea)
